Why is our newsletter called the Seneca Scuttlebutt?
Well, a scuttlebutt is a nautical term that originated in the late 1700's. Originally, a scuttlebutt was a barrel with a hole in it that held water for sailors to drink from. The term has evolved over the years to now be defined as a shipboard drinking fountain or water cooler. And, what happens at the office water cooler...gossip, which is the modern slang term for the word. So, the Seneca Scuttlebutt is our own little rumor mill intended to keep you informed of everything happening at Seneca Lake Marina. Enjoy!
